Hai Van Pass
Hai Van is a fabulous and breathtaking pass road in Vietnam with a 21-kilometer road winding along the mountainside between Thua Thien Hue and Danang. Our driver will help you take some beautiful photos of ideal mountainsides and the peak of Hai Van. Unquestionably, this place will impress you with its high altitude, coupled with the rush of the pass.
Horror Highway
Horror Highway is forever in the minds of the Quang Tri people. Artillery and infantry caused a horrific massacre on National Highway 1A, about 10km south of Quang Tri, killing thousands of people, mostly the elderly, women, and children, over many hours.
Long Hung Church
After that, we will visit the Long Hung Church, a catholic church built in 1955 with reinforced concrete evidence of the damage by South Vietnam and American forces that still exists presently. The North Vietnamese army held the church while the American and South Vietnamese forces fought to get it back with machine-gun fire, grenades, and even shells from warships for 81 days.
Doc Mieu Firebase
The next destination we will visit is Doc Mieu Firebase. This site is located east of National Highway 1A. Doc Mieu was the former American base, just 7km south of the Hien Luong Bridge and Ben Hai River, once part of ‘the McNamara Line.
Hien Luong Bridge and Ben Hai River
Hien Luong Bridge spans the banks of the Ben Hai River—a historic witness to the Vietnam War. American bombs in 1967 damaged the original Hien Luong Bridge, and it has just been rebuilt. This bridge was half red and yellow at the time, serving as a physical and ideological boundary that separated North and South of Vietnam
Vinh Moc Tunnels
These Tunnels were constructed with 3 levels at 10m, 15m, and 20-23m deep to protect the villagers of Quang Tri. Under the tunnels, there are enough things to support a whole village, such as ventilation, a meeting room, freshwater wells, and eventually, a generator and lights. Additionally, the underground town will impress you and curious about how they built schools, clinics, toilets, and a maternity room where 17 children were born.
Finally, our driver will help you go back to your hotel in Hoi An. We finish the Hoi An to Vinh Moc Tunnels by private car. Culture Pham Travel wishes you a great trip with us!
