Hien Luong Bridge crossing the Ben Hai River is the 17th parallel that divides Vietnam into two North and South regions during the Vietnam War. The Geneva Agreement used this as the boundary between the two regions for 2 years. But in 1956, Ngo Dinh Diem’s government refused to participate in the general election and continued boundaries for the next 20 years.
In the past, the old Hien Luong bridge was destroyed many times, so a new bridge was built. But in 2001, the Quang Tri government restored the old Hien Luong bridge according to the French design built in 1952. Today, the bridge is painted in two colors, blue and yellow, to honor unity.
Vinh Moc Tunnels are the last place on the trip from Hue to Vinh Moc Tunnels by car and are a famous tourist destination. This tunnel took 2 years to build from 1963 to 1965 and became home to thousands of people from 1965 to 1972. During the time living in the tunnel, there were also no casualties.
Vinh Moc Tunnels has a central axis length of about 2000m. Every 3-5m, there is an apartment and a total of 3 floors. The tunnels are designed with 13 doors in all, of which there are 7 doors leading to the mountain and 6 to the sea. It is easy to get lost in a dense tunnel system without a guide.
