Our professional driver and English guide will transfer you to Ho Chi Minh City center (approximately 1,5 hours) for visiting the following sightseeing.
Firstly, our driver and excellent tour guide will drive you to visit the Independence Palace, also known as the Presidential Palace. Your journey will begin at the Reunification Palace, once the presidential palace of the Republic of Vietnam. The Vietnam War came to an end on April 30, 1975, when a North Vietnamese Army tank crashed head-on into its main gate.
Therefore, it is now a popular tourist destination in Ho Chi Minh City. You will see two of the original tanks that were used to retake the palace are still parked there. The residence and office of the French Governor of Cochin-China were both located at Independence Palace.
In addition to a command bunker, it also has secret rooms, verdant gardens, and antique furniture. Additionally, it continues to be used to hold significant events in Ho Chi Minh city, such as APEC summits.
Moving forward Phu My shore excursion tour, we will visit the Notre Dame Cathedral. As you know, French colonists constructed the Notre Dame Cathedral in Saigon in the late 1880s. Furthermore, it is one of the few remaining strongholds of Catholicism in the mostly Buddhism country of Vietnam.
They named it Notre Dame after they put the statue “Peaceful Notre Dame” into Paris Square in 1959. In 1962, the Vatican conferred the Cathedral as a basilica and officially named it Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica.
The cathedral is about 60 meters high. Besides, it owns unique neo-Romanesque characteristics, including the all-red brick façade that they imported from Marseille.
Furthermore, it is situated in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City District 1 and has stained glass windows. Plus, it has two bell towers with six bronze bells that still ring today, and a tranquil garden setting.
Next, to continue our shore excursion in Ho Chi Minh, we will go to the central post office. The Central Post Office in Ho Chi Minh City is a wonderfully conserved relic of French colonial times. It is probably the largest post office in Southeast Asia.
Moreover, it is located next to the Notre Dame Cathedral. Visitors will have a chance to visualize life in Vietnam during the Indochinese Empire era by visiting the two cultural sites together. Alfred Foulhoux designed the building, which has arched windows and wooden shutters. It is like its prosperous time in the late 19th century.
To keep going on your private shore excursion, we move on to visit the jade emperor pagoda! The Emperor Jade pagoda also called the Tortoise pagoda, is one of Ho Chi Minh City’s five most prominent pagodas.
Additionally, a group of Cantonese built this pagoda at the start of the twentieth century. They came from Guangzhou province in Southwest China. Thus, it is a typical example of the Mahayanist branch of Buddhism that is extensively practiced in Vietnam.
Ho Chi Minh City’s War Remnants Museum initially opened to the public in 1975. It was formerly known as the ‘Museum of American War Crimes”, and it serves as a poignant reminder of the long and cruel Vietnam War. There are graphic pictures and American military weaponry on exhibit in this museum.
What’s more, there’s a helicopter equipped with rocket launchers, a tank, a fighter jet, and a single-seat assault plane. Besides, you can also see a conventional bomb weighing 6,800 kg. Between 1945 and 1975, American armies utilized these weapons to invade Vietnam.
Anything else in this private shore excursion? On this shore excursion, we will go to Ben Thanh Market. Ben Thanh Market in District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City is a fantastic destination to buy local handicraft items, branded products, Vietnamese art, and other souvenirs.
Inside the market, you will see food stalls where you can eat hawker-style Vietnamese cuisine or simply cool off with a cold drink. What’s else, it is amazing when you enjoy the delicious dishes of the locals and observe their daily life.
At night, eateries and restaurants along the market’s perimeter open. It creates a bustling street scene filled with the aromas of wok-fried noodles, grilled fish, and meats. Ben Thanh, one of Saigon’s oldest landmarks, has a wonderful ambiance that is completely authentically Vietnamese.
Ultimately, 16:00 pm – 17:00 pm, our professional will drive you back to your cruise ship shore excursions. Ho Chi Minh City shore excursions end here! Culture Pham Travel wishes you a memorable trip with our leading service!
